A memorandum of understanding was approved by the Institute for Addiction and Behavioral Studies, Inc., an affiliate of the Addiction Professionals Certification Board of NJ (ICRC), and INCASE to establish a pilot program whereby the two bodies will collaborate in approving addiction counselor certification coursework at colleges and universities in NJ, utilizing the INCASE Program Approval Standards. The Institute will issue a joint certificate of program approval, and INCASE will receive one-third of the annual program approval fees as established by the Institute. The memo was signed by Kirk Bowden, INCASE President, and Rich Bowe, Executive Director of the Institute and the Certification Board, at the Tempe conference, September 28, 2007, following a presentation to the NJ Board by Peter Myers, Chair of INCASE Program Approval and Institute member in NJ.
BOWDEN TAKES PRESIDENCY OF INCASE AT TEMPE CONFERENCE

Dr. Bowden chairs the Department of Chemical Dependency at Rio Salado College, and serves as Program Director of Professional Counseling and Addiction Studies at Grand Canyon University. He is a consultant to the State of Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners and a former member of that Board. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Teaching in the Addictions. READING WINS PRESIDENT-ELECT POSITION
A contested election for President-Elect of INCASE was won by Ed Reading, Ph.D., LCADC, CCS. Dr. Reading has been in the addictions treatment field since 1969, in a wide variety of capacities; as clinician, treatment administrator, author, presenter and educator. He coordinates the addictions curricula at Georgian Court University in New Jersey. He served on the Addictions Professionals Certification Board of NJ (ICRC) before being appointed to the new state Licensing Board, which he now chairs. He has been on the Boards of the National Catholic Council on Alcoholism and the Federation of State Physicians Health Programs. In this latter vein, he has also served as Asst. Director of the Impaired Physicians Program and has presented often at ASAM. In his campaign statement, he pointed out that ironically, while he is an ordained Catholic Priest, he has only taught substance abuse, not theology.
TRAINERS AND EDUCATORS MEET IN NEW YORK STATE
